What is Anxiety?
You know that feeling overwhelming feeling? The one you just can’t shake? That one thought that “other people are judging me” or “am I really good enough for this?” Or, that nagging feeling when everything is going great? The little voice that doesn’t allow you to do it “good enough” …because….”Well, Yeah, It is done, but not perfect…” How about that evil critical little voice that keeps harping on mistakes that you have made YEARS AGO? Yep…that one. How about those disturbing thoughts that pop into your head? The repetitive random ones that don’t serve a purpose? The ones that are NOT helpful at all. Those are normal right? Nope, that is anxiety brain too.
Well, what about that ticker tape going through your head when you lay in bed at night. The endless To-Do list that keeps rolling around in your head is pretty common, isn’t it? Yes, common, but still anxiety. But, is it normal for people to lay in bed and review their day though? Yes, normal. But, if it’s making it so you don’t fall asleep, it’s still your old pal, anxiety. All of us experience occasional anxiety. However, worries that just won’t go away, and distress in everyday situations are not typical. You may feel like you have a lower distress tolerance than you used to. Or, not be able to let go no matter how hard you try. These are signs of an anxiety disorder. I treat anxiety using traditional approaches such as cognitive behavior therapy (CBT) combined with a spiritual, holistic perspective.
I collaborate with both eastern and western medicine proividers to give truly well rounded care.
I have also been trained in more modern approaches such as Accelerated Resolution Therapy, which sees results typically in 1-5 sessions.
