Online/Virtual Therapy for Misfits in Florida

What if you could flip the script and see your uniqueness as a source of joy and connection, rather than a reason for exclusion? What if you could rewrite the narrative to celebrate your authenticity, rather than feeling sidelined by it?

Let's face it, being different is not easy. It oftentimes can feel like a painful, lonely journey. However, the likelihood is that you are a creative, a mystic, a visionary, a change agent. Your calling is not an easy one and can often feel overwhelming. But the reality is, you can't be someone you are not. The truth is, even when you have tried to fit in, you still stick out. It isn't about the clothes, the hair, or the appearance; it is because of WHO you are.

What is a Misfit?

How I define misfits: people who don't feel like they fit in with the normal crowd because of their own unique, quirky, individual style.

Common questions that come with being a misfit:

Do you:

  • March to your own beat?

  • Don't quite fit in with the norm?

  • Are way more aware of the world than the majority of people?

  • Have friends, but they may not really understand you or may feel closer to you than you do them?

  • Are considered weird by most people?

  • Are more intense than others?

  • See the world from a different set of lenses?

  • See the pain in the world and believe change can be made to make it better

Can Therapy help me?

While everyone occasionally experiences feeling different, those of us who are "misfits" (Yes, I wear my misfit badge proudly!) feel it in the majority of situations and have felt it the majority of our lives. So, is therapy some magic bullet that is going to make you suddenly feel like you fit in? Absolutely not. However, I can, through our therapeutic relationship, help you embrace who you are, let go of your mask, and lean in to what makes you uniquely you!

However, I want to be straight up, the process of acknowledging and accepting you are not going to be like other people, can bring feelings like on anxietydepression, or grief. You may mourn "normalcy" (you know, that feeling of wanting to being like everyone else). Just because you are different doesn't mean that you don't WANT to connect, find your "old sames," or feel a part of your community. In fact, as a misfit, you often want to connect with people even more because you know the pain of loneliness all too well. That being said, having a virtual therapist who accepts you and encourages your unique individuality, sometimes for the first time in your life, can allow you to grow into your full self. If you are feeling like a misfit, know you are not alone! Many of my clients have felt like an outsider in their own families. All that being said IT IS GOING TO BE TOTALLY WORTH IT!

My clients often find they feel liberated for the first time in their lives. They have found that since they have stopped trying to hide their authenticity and trying to be who they are not, life feels like it is worth living again. They’ve found that since they let go of what others think, they have begun living a lighter, happier life. A life that allows them to be the creative visionaries they always were. The good news is that you can too!

Laura Zane’s approach to Virtual Therapy for Misfits online in Florida

First, I begin by giving you a safe place to be you! A place to be vulnerable, and express yourself.

Second, we'll explore together the areas of your life where you feel like you don't belong or fit in. I will use targeted approaches, like cognitive behavior therapy (CBT), to help you confront the thoughts that go along with that feeling of not fitting in. We may also do some inner child work. We’ll explore whether your inner voice is your own, or if it’s the voice of someone who was part of your path. Someone who taught you something that was not YOUR TRUTH, but THEIRS. As you and I explore these “truths” you decide if it is a value you want to keep or unlearn.

Next, we explore the areas of your life that may or may not be in alignment with who you are, who you are becoming, and the life you want to live.

Finally, together, we come up with an action plan to help you become more in alignment with your authentic self. Each person is different…so for one person, this could mean changing jobs or career fields; for others, it means setting boundaries and not allowing others to tell you who THEY think you should be. This part of counseling is unique to each person.

You don't have to feel alone, disconnected, and "weird." You can help you start embracing the unique, creative, visionary that you are today!

Let’s talk about how therapy would work…
