Accelerated Resolution Therapy

What is Accelerated Resolution Therapy? (ART)

Accelerated Resolution Therapy (ARTherapy or ART) is a new, cutting edge therapy that has it’s origins in other evidenced based therapies. Unlike other many other therapies though, ART quickly resolves issues such as PTSD, Depression, Anxiety, Phobias, OCD, Panic Attacks, grief and addiction quickly, typically within 1-5 sessions

How Does Accelerated Resolution Therapy work?

First off, clients are ALWAYS in control of their sessions. The therapist helps guide the client through their visuals the painful event and often traumatic event, using calming eye movements and Voluntary Image Replacement to change the way memories are stored in the brain. Essentially, you can think of each memory being a movie. What art does, is takes the movie, uses eye movements and mindfulness to allow the client to turn the movie into a book. The client gets to pick a new cover for the book, and re-shelve it. It does not eliminate the memory but changes the in a way that it is less intrusive for the client.

Is Accelerated Resolution Therapy (ART) the same as EMDR?

EMDR or Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR) is another effective, evidenced based eye movement therapy that was developed in the 1980’s. It focuses on content of the memories, uses free association, is more self directed by the client, and uses a variable number of eye movements.

Accelerated Resolution Therapy was developed in 2008 by Laney Rosenzweig, and also uses eye movements. However ART is different in that it focuses more on the negative images that impact both the physical and emotional sensations within the body. ART is a procedural and directive therapy, in other words the client is guided through their memories in a structured way by the therapist. ART uses and builds upon aspects of other evidenced based therapies including EMDR, CBT, Gestalt, Psychodynamic and mindfulness, yet is unique unto itself.

Is ART guaranteed to work for me?

While Accelerated Resolution Therapy (ART) has shown promising results in alleviating symptoms of various conditions such as depression, anxiety, OCD, PTSD, pain, and Dyslexia, it's essential to understand that no therapy can guarantee specific outcomes for everyone. Each individual's response to therapy can vary based on various factors such as the severity of symptoms, personal circumstances, and overall health.

That being said, studies have indicated that ART typically demonstrates effectiveness in relieving symptoms in a relatively short period. It's noteworthy that some individuals may experience benefits after just one session, while others may require up to five sessions to notice significant improvements.

While these findings are encouraging, it's important to approach therapy with realistic expectations. Success with ART, like any therapeutic approach, is not guaranteed, but the evidence suggests it can be a valuable option for those seeking a quicker solution than traditional talk therapy and who are open to trying new therapeutic methods. Ultimately, the effectiveness of ART for an individual depends on various factors, including their readiness to engage in therapy, the skill of the therapist, and the suitability of the approach to their specific needs and circumstances.
